Access Control & Video Intercom Dubai: Doors, Users & Visitor Flow
Design access control and video intercom around doors, credentials, locks, life-safety interfaces, visitor workflows, audit trails and remote answering.
The door hardware comes first
Access control depends on the physical door: lock type, frame, door closer, request-to-exit method, emergency release and power requirements. Selecting readers before confirming door hardware often creates rework.
Choose credentials for the people using the site
Cards, mobile credentials, PINs and biometrics each suit different environments. Consider visitor handling, staff turnover, lost credentials, privacy, offline operation and how administrators will add or revoke users.
Intercom is a workflow, not just a screen
Map what happens when a visitor arrives: who receives the call, what happens after hours, which gate or door is released, whether multiple residences or reception points are involved and what happens if the network is unavailable.
Coordinate life safety and fail behaviour
Every controlled door needs a defined response to power loss, fire alarm conditions and emergency egress requirements. These interfaces should be agreed with the relevant project disciplines and tested during commissioning.
Frequently asked questions
What lock type works with access control?
The correct lock depends on the door, frame, egress requirements and fail-safe or fail-secure strategy. Electric strikes, magnetic locks and motorized locks each need compatible power, door hardware and emergency-release design.
Can residents answer the intercom from a phone?
Yes, if the selected intercom platform supports mobile calling and the site has reliable network and internet connectivity. Local indoor stations can still be included so entry is not dependent on a phone alone.
Can temporary visitor access be issued?
Yes. Many access-control systems can issue time-limited PINs, QR codes or mobile credentials, depending on the selected platform. The visitor workflow and expiry rules should be defined during design.
What happens during a power failure?
That depends on the required door behaviour and life-safety strategy. Backup power can keep controllers and selected locks operating, while emergency egress and fire-alarm interfaces must follow the approved project requirements.
